When a creative couple approached us to transform their Arts and rafts cottage, they sought more than additional space — they wanted a home that could act as a canvas for them. The brief called for a sensitive refurbishment and modest extension that would respect the cottage’s historic character while creating bright, connected spaces that could host music, art, and treasured memorabilia.
The Building
The original house suffered from disjointed rooms divided by a cluster of chimney breasts that disrupted flow and light. The architectural response carefully reconfigured these internal elements — connecting front and rear spaces, allowing morning light to filter through the depth of the plan, and retaining a central fireplace as a social anchor within the kitchen.
Throughout the project, period features such as exposed timber beams, picture rails, internal windows, and doors were restored and celebrated through the use of bold, contemporary colours.
A bright yellow kitchen, envisioned early in the design process, became the heart of the home — setting the tone for a palette inspired by the couple’s own collection of art and artefacts. Rather than adhering strictly to heritage hues, the design honours the Arts and Crafts spirit of colour and pattern through creative reinterpretation.
The brief for the ground floor WC was to design the best nightclub toilet ever! To remind you of the party even when you are at home

The owners were AMAZING at scouring car boot sales, flea markets and French vintage fairs to source lots of the lighting, furniture, artwork and collectables. Every item has its own story.
