Conservation Area within the London Borough of Haringey
Ground floor reconfiguration including rear extension and garden studio
The family wanted a set of living, dining and kitchen spaces with a strong relationship with one another and the garden. A courtyard space provides a breather moment between the new and old spaces. A studio at the bottom of the garden was to provide a private gym.
How to connect spaces without resorting to open plan?
We designed strongly connected rooms but also each space with its own character - space for someone to read overlooking the courtyard - space for someone to prepare dinner and host whilst not impacting the reader in the snug.
Bespoke Joinery
The kitchen and all the bespoke joinery was designed and fabricated in house by FRAHER Joinery.
To avoid suffocating the existing building, we designed a courtyard to bring in natural light and air to the original rooms. The courtyard also provides a natural break for the surrounding rooms to look out onto.

Project Summary
Finishes
We wanted the finishes to be seamless but still have character and movement to them. The polished concrete floor reflects the natural light that changes throughout the day. The lime wash paint makes the walls feel textured and full of energy as the natural light passes through the space.
Roof
We designed and made all of the joinery you see in the project: Kitchen, Utility, Bookcases, shelving and the dark oak fins by the rooflights.
Joinery
We replaced an existing extension that benefited from a mono-pitch with a saw-tooth roof that made the most of the height from the original extension. The saw tooth roof design brings in high-level light into the garden-facing spaces.
