Heath House
Hampstead / London
Completed 2024
Local Authority Camden Council
Build Team: Steflay Development Ltd
Interior Design: A New Day Design
This listed house is hidden within the Heath along with a cluster of historic buildings. The family asked us to retrofit the house with a particular focus on improving the energy efficiency of the building fabric.
The Building
With any listed building, you need to get listed building consent for any alterations to the internal or external building fabric. We worked with Camden Listed Building officers to find a solution that introduced a heat pump to the building, added wood fibre insulation internally, as well as upgrading some non-original windows to double-glazed units. No easy feat when working on a listed building.
The main spatial change was forming a wider set of glass doors from the kitchen and dining room into the courtyard. We also converted the roof space into an extra bedroom - accessed by a new staircase that leads on from the original staircase.

Project Summary
Design Team
This was our first project working with Andrew from A New Day Design on the Interiors. This collaboration has led to a number of other projects that we are working on together.
Pre Planning Application
We located the heat pump in the little courtyard garden. These needed to sit in an acoustic enclosure which takes up valuable external space - however this was an important and crucial part of the project for the family.
Heat Pumps
As the proposed building fabric alterations were challenging, we engaged with Camden through a pre-planning process to discuss how to touch and work with the existing historic building.
