Design Approach:

This beautiful Arts and Crafts house sits within a mature garden in the heart of Dulwich, surrounded by an orchard and a collection of original outbuildings. Inside, it is full of remarkable period features, including timber panelling, solid oak doors, leaded light windows and the original servants' bell system.

Our role is to carefully refurbish the house, improving its environmental performance while protecting the character that makes it so special. The only significant change to the layout is a micro extension to the kitchen (moving a wall), creating enough space for a family dining table with views over a courtyard garden.

The existing timber finishes have inspired the design of the new kitchen, where we're combining the warmth and craftsmanship of the Arts and Crafts period with details that feel at home in 2026. Working with the clients to select materials and finishes has been one of the highlights of the project.

The house is being designed for a family of four, alongside a miniature Schnauzer and two tortoises—the first tortoises we've had the pleasure of designing for.
